Is the begining of 2026, a year that marks the end of a government that prioritized tourism and aimed to integrate the country's territories into this economic activity. In this first edition of the Fontur Digital Magazin of this year, we have dedicated this issue to show our readers an overview of tourism in Colombia, at a time when record figures are being set in both investment and the number of non-resident tourists visiting the Land of Beauty.

We begin this overview with a summary of the investments and actions undertaken by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, through Fontur, in several regions, which have resulted in the creation of alternative attractions and destinations. Many of these areas are territories affected by armed conflict, and among numerous initiatives, they are turning to tourism not only as an economic activity but also as a tool to safeguard their history and identity.

One of the biggest attractions of Colombia is its biodiversity, product of a privileged geographical location in the world. This megadiversity, with multiple ecosystems that change in just a few hours' drive, can be visited safely and sustainably thanks to the declaration of these areas as National Natural Parks.

However, for tourism to generate development and sustainability, It is essential to integrate communities so they can engage in this activity respectfully and with best practices. For this reason, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and Fontur, has been developing a Responsible Tourism program, which aims to ensure that the impacts of this economic activity are positive, especially for communities that are just starting to integrate into the country's tourism circuits.

An additional effort in this area is the training of more than 2,500 people in Sustainable Rural Tourism, through an education program in which they have also received incentives to strengthen their businesses.

Boosting tourism also requires infrastructure. For this reason, one of the articles analyzes how the Ministry, trough Fontur, has invested more than 1.2 billion in 663 projects in all the departments of the country. This includes strengthening river transport through the construction of 88 docks, which will allow communities to attract more tourism through activities developed along river banks across Colombia.

In this edition, the reader will also find a tour of some of the Carnivals, Fairs and Festivals, representative expressions of Colombia's diverse culture. The reader will also found one of the most important manifestations of the country's diversity: its gastronomy, which we support through the ‘Colombia a la Mesa’ strategy (Colombia at the Table) .

We hope that in this edition readers will find relevant information about the actions that Fontur is taking to promote tourism and open it doors to the world. We invite everybody to explore our regions and discover the diversity of Colombia, the Land of Beauty.
